We
sometimes call Madrone the poor mans European Pearwood as it closely
resembles this more expensive imported hardwood. It is a pastel reddish
pink in color and has a very fine texture. These boards have been steamed
to bring out the color and to relieve drying stresses. Kiln-dried.

related to Lignum vitae. It is hard and heavy, oily, and a beautiful
shade of green. It also has a very decorative grain on the radial surface.
These boards were cut towards the outside of logs and all have some

Pacific
Yew
(Taxus brevifolia)
This
scarce softwood species is native to the pacific coast region from the
southern tip of Alaska south to the Santa Cruz Mountains of California.
Known most for its use in archery bows it is also popular for small
furniture and cabinet pieces. It is a wonderful turnery wood and the
fine-grained wood takes a beautiful polish. Often contains small defects,
pin knots, and swirly grain. Air-dried.
