Ebony
Billets
West African Ebony
(Diospyros crassiflora) Billets
This Ebony, sometimes called Gabon or Gaboon Ebony is sometimes
jet black but oftentimes has grayish streaks that mostly disappear
when finished or after the made object has been put into service.
These billets are rough-sawn from logs in the bush of W. African
and most are transported out by human porters. Expect an occasional
knot or check/checks and maybe some pinholes but they all have a
great amount of useable wood. These billets are what we use to mill
the lumber and large turning squares seen elsewhere on our website.
These billets are especially economical if, along with lumber or
large squares, you are also milling smaller pieces for pen blanks,
inlays, knife handles, etc. Partially air-dried to air-dried. $4.00
to $8.00 per lb. depending on quality.

some are spectacular with quite large burly clusters all over. A
