The heartwood is purplish to brownish-black with dark gray streaks giving an overall impression of being black. Lustrous with an attractive inner chatoyance. Very hard, heavy, close-grained, and virtually free from pores. Its stability and lovely tonal qualities make it an excellent instrument wood.

One of several rosewood species from Madagascar. It has beautiful color and grain, a sweet smell, and is very easy to work and stable in use. It is a very close match to true Rio or Brazilian Rosewood (Dalbergia nigra) and as such is much in demand for musical instruments, especially guitars. These squares have two opposing quartersawn faces and would be excellent for cutting bridge blanks, bbok-matched peghead veneers, etc.

Granadillo
Turning Squares/Pool Cue Blanks

This beautiful hardwood is oftentimes sold as a substitute for Cocobolo. It is a species of Platymiscium and as such is in the same family as the Rosewoods. It is hard and heavy, stable in service, and takes a gorgeous polish. This board has been air-dried 4 years, is extremely chatoyant (lustrous) and has some lovely figuring.

Found in Asia and Europe this is medium sized tree with a stout trunk. It is probably best known for its leaves on which silkworms feed. The heartwood is yellow to reddish-yellow becoming a rich golden brown. Excellent for chair and furniture work.

Palisander
(Dalbergia baronii)

This is one of several rosewood species from Madagascar. It has beautiful color and grain, a sweet smell, and is very easy to work and stable in use. It is a very close match to true Rio or Brazilian Rosewood (Dalbergia nigra) and as such is much in demand for musical instruments, especially guitars.
