Crotch click on photo for close-ups and back view These crotches were custom sawn for us in Ghana. Some of these have extraordinary figure with a high level of chatoyance. In almost everyone the crotch figure has opened up and will need to be filled with a clear or colored epoxy resin, acrylic resin, or amalgam to give them a smooth surface but will be well worth the effort. These are fairly rough on both faces. Rare #SP1068A-sold

click on photo for close-up We have nine pallets of these Guyana hardwood shorts. The majority seem to be Beefwood (Manilkara bidentata) but I have found Shibadan (Aspidosperma album), Tatabu (Diplotropis purpurea), and Jatoba (Hymenaea courbaril) mixed in. These species are all hard and heavy. The pieces range in size from 5 to 6” wide and 4 to 12” long. The thickness is approximately an inch. Excellent for small boxes, pens, segmented bowls, etc. Kiln-dried. #SP366 By
the pallet (approx. size 30 x 36 x 42”) $300.00. Shipped by truck
as the weight is over 1,000 lbs. ______________________________________________ Brazilian
Pernambuco Also called Ibirapitanga and Pau Brazil, this once important dyewood gave origin to the name of Brazil. The color of the heartwood is yellowish-brown to orange and is fine-grained, hard, and heavy. It is highly esteemed for violin bows and these blanks were cut for that purpose. However they were found to have defects such as pin knots, wild grain, cracks, that precluded their use for bows. The pieces vary in size 3/8-3/4” x 1 ¼-5” x 28-48” and come rough and unplaned. Lot of 5 lbs. $50.00 ______________________________________________
