This is a high altitude spruce found from the Rocky Mountains west to the Cascade range. Generally much lighter in color than Sitka Spruce. Our stock is well air-dried, has consistent ring spacing, is stiff across the grain, and is extremely resonant. A beautiful sound wood for musical instruments.

This wood has gained in popularity since the early 1990's when Brazilian Rosewood was designated an endangered species. Furniture manufacturers used it as a Brazilian Rosewood substitute but it stands on its own as an instrument tone wood.
