Spalted Big-leaf Maple

Maple that has lain on the ground or has had fungal spores introduced to its lumber while still green. As the fungus mycelium spread through the wood the leave myriad black lines which can be quite dramatic and gorgeous. This invasion can sometimes produce cracks and punkiness in the wood.
